Bee-Bim Bop

The kids and I got this great book at the library called "Bee-Bim Bop!". We didn't even search for it, believe it or not! We happened upon it when we were browsing the other books.

It has cute illustrations of a little Korean girl going grocery shopping with her mom to get the stuff to make Bee-Bim Bop. It's done in rhyming so it sounds like a little song (like my friend Lauri mentioned).

Here's an excerpt:

"Hurry, family, hurry
Gotta hop hop hop!
Dinner's on the table
and it's BEE-Bim Bop!"

The kids loved the story and they want me to make some bee-bim bop.

"Bop" is actually the Korean word for "rice."
"Bee-Bim" (or Bi-bim) means "mix-mix". The dish has many vegetables and rice and a fried egg. Once you assemble it, you mix it up. It's a delightful dish. You can also put Korean hot sauce on it. The times I've made it, it's a lot of work. Everything from spinach to beef is in the dish and you individually prepare all of the ingredients.

Learning Korean has been hard, but it's really easy to learn the food words. And they're fun!
