Characters Welcome

There are many reasons I love our church, but one of the biggest reasons is that we don't merely talk about diversity, we welcome it and celebrate it.

We have been "mistaken" for a church that accepts anything and everything. They assume that because we let anyone attend, that we also condone everything. These are two very different things. What's telling though, is that it's the Christian person, already attending another church who mistakes our church as that, not those who are looking to find a church.

We were talking about what our church "motto" would be. We do have our mission and vision statement, which seems more of a formality rather than something we identify ourselves by.

But one of our own, who's been with the church from it's conception, said it best. He thought we should adopt USA Network's tagline: "Characters Welcome." And it's true. I did seriously think about TNT's tagline: "We Know Drama." Because, we do know drama.

At the end of the day, we don't identify ourselves as being all alike. We do identify with the fact that Jesus hung out with characters and loved them. We want to be the kind of people, who have been touched by Jesus and who follow Him...not just a creed. We're glad that Jesus made room for us...the characters. And because Jesus welcomed characters, we do too.
